This illustration was entirely created using Adobe Illustrator CS2.

Trace portrait using the "Pen" tool. Trace the light and shadow parts as well.


Use the "Eyedropper" tool to pick colors from the photograph. With those colors create a series of gradation colors; then apply them to all of those traced shapes one at a time. You can adjust the gradation using the "Gradient" tool.


Fill all the shapes with colors and gradient colors until the drawing is done.


Then draw bats, a baseball and several stars. Use these elements as the background objects in the composition.


Color the objects and set a color for the background of the card. And now, you have a finished cover for a baseball fan's birthday card.
